to kidnap the woman, and holds her hostage in the house, and appoints men to prevent her from escaping. Then the family of the person wishing to marry the kidnapped woman goes to the woman's family and carries gifts such as tobacco, kola nuts, and guinea fowl. When the offer is accepted, a dog, two goats, and about five guinea fowl are slaughtered, cooked, and then brought to the bride's family to celebrate the bride's family's approval. Then the groom's family proceeds to present the dowry to the bride's family. The dowry usually consists of money, kola nuts, guinea fowl, four cattle, and cooked meat brought by the suitor's family and shared by everyone.
